Company Growth Academy exists because of that one idea. Everything else on this page, how we got started, what we teach, and who we work with, comes back to it.
Where I Started
Before I was ever an entrepreneur, I served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, including deployment during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. That taught me discipline, and it taught me how to perform when the stakes are real. Both stayed with me in every business I have built since.
Since then I have spent more than 35 years building companies. I have bought businesses and built them up, and I have founded businesses from nothing and built those up too, in industries as different from each other as real estate, paramedical services, DNA testing, and an e-commerce clothing brand. Along the way I sold four of them.
The Book That Started This Company
Selling that last company left me asking the question a lot of owners ask right after an exit: now what? I wrote down what I had learned, and it became Business Mulligan: How to Give Your Business and Your Life a Second Chance in a Changing World, which went on to become a number one bestseller on Amazon.
A mulligan, if you are not a golfer, is a second chance. A do-over. That is exactly what the book was about, and it is exactly what business owners started asking me for after they read it. So in 2014 I founded Business Mulligan and started coaching owners who wanted the same second chance I had written about, a way to turn their companies around, and often their lives along with them.
Becoming Company Growth Academy
Business Mulligan did exactly what it was built to do, but the name made it hard for a new prospect to know what we actually did at a glance. After COVID I rebranded the company as Company Growth Academy, a name that says it plainly: we help companies grow, and we teach the people inside them how to grow too.
Since then we have built Company Growth Academy into a business education and coaching company shaped by more than my own experience. We have learned from entrepreneurs across a range of industries, from every client we have worked with, and from every person we have engaged along the way, and we have used all of it to hone our offerings down to what actually matters most to business owners and their teams.
What We Teach: The Company Growth System
At the center of everything we do is the Company Growth System, a people growth and value growth system built to grow value throughout a company, not just at the top of it. It is the throughline across every offering we have, from private coaching to workshops. Develop the people, install the processes, and the company's value grows as a result.
Who We Work With
Company Growth Academy works with owners of service-based businesses.
A lot of our clients are second-generation owners. They took a business someone else started and pushed it further than the generation before them, which is real, hard-won progress. But they have hit a point where the next level of growth needs something they do not yet know how to do on their own. That is the exact moment we are built for.

Value first.
When you focus on value, and not just the value of the company but the value you bring to your team members, your customers, and your community, revenue and profit take care of themselves.
Start with the end in mind.
An exit is inevitable for every business owner, whether it is decades away or already on the horizon. We treat exit strategy as good business strategy from day one, because a company that is healthy and attractive to a future buyer is simply a healthier company to run today. Being prepared, internally and externally, is the key to a healthy, wealthy exit.
An exit is inevitable. Being ready for it is what makes a company better to own today.
